O mundo do xadrez assistiu espantado à quebra de um recorde inacreditável, no último fim de semana (dias 3 e 4), em Las Vegas: o grande-mestre uzbeque Timur Gareyev disputou 48 partidas simultâneas às cegas. Isso mesmo: ele enfrentou 48 oponentes ao mesmo tempo, sem poder visualizar nenhum dos tabuleiros (!!!). Na incrível façanha, Gareyev obteve 35 vitórias, 7 empates e 6 derrotas, durante 19 horas e 9 minutos.
Durante muito tempo, o recorde mundial de simultâneas às cegas pertenceu a Miguel Najdorf, que enfrentou 45 adversários em São Paulo, em 1947 (39 vitórias, 4 empates e 2 derrotas). Somente em 2011, Marc Lang conseguiu superar Najdorf, ao enfrentar 46 oponentes em Sontheim an der Brenz, na Alemanha (25 vitórias, 19 empates e 2 derrotas).

(The chess world watched amazed to the breaking of an unbelievable record, last weekend (days 3 and 4), in Las Vegas: grandmaster Timur Gareyev from Uzbekistan played 48 simultaneous blindfold games. That's it: he faced 48 opponents at the same time, without being able to see any of the boards (!!!). In the incredible feat, Gareyev obtained 35 wins, 7 draws and 6 losses, during 19 hours and 9 minutes.
For a long time, the world record for blindfold simultaneous belonged to Miguel Najdorf, who faced 45 opponents in São Paulo, in 1947 (39 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses).
