No último dia 2, faleceu o ucraniano Valentin Rudenko, engenheiro aeronáutico e genial criador de problemas de xadrez. Seu problema mais famoso é uma composição de mate em 3 que os cosmonautas da Soyuz 9 levaram no equipamento que foi ao espaço. Uma das tarefas durante a missão espacial era resolver o problema, para para testar como o raciocínio lógico era afetado após prolongados períodos em ambiente sem gravidade. A folha com o problema, autografada pelos cosmonautas, pode ser vista no Museu de Astronáutica de Cheboksary, cidade situada na Rússia, às margens do rio Volga.
(On April 2nd, died Valentin Rudenko, aeronautical engineer and genius creator of chess problems from Ukraine. His most famous problem is a mate-in-3 composition, taken by the cosmonauts of Soyuz 9 with the equipment that went to space. One of the tasks during the space mission was to solve the problem, so as to test how logical thinking was affected after prolonged periods in weightless environment. The sheet with the problem, autographed by the cosmonauts, can be seen in the Astronautics Museum of Cheboksary, a city in Russia, on the banks of the Volga River.)
