Contam-se muitas histórias envolvendo este problema, composto por Gijs van Breukelen. Na mais famosa delas, o grande-mestre inglês James Plaskett o teria mostrado aos colegas, que competiam num torneio em Bruxelas, em 1987 - e somente Mikhail Tal teria conseguido resolvê-lo. Por isso, acabou sendo conhecido como "o problema de Plaskett".
(There are many stories involving this problem, composed by Gijs van Breukelen. In the most famous of them, English grandmaster James Plaskett would have shown it to his colleagues who were competing in a tournament in Brussels, in 1987 - and only Mikhail Tal would have been able to solve it. That is why it became known as "Plaskett's puzzle".)
