Um problema "impossível": as Brancas jogam e dão xeque-mate em 2 lances!
(An "impossible" problem: White to play and give checkmate in 2 moves!)
PCFilho
Qh7..Rook whereever, for example b8, then Nc7#
ResponderExcluirWell done, Fisico_tisico! 1. Qh7!! is the key move, threatening Qxh8#.
ResponderExcluirPossible continuations:
1. Qh7!! Rb8
2. Nc7#
1. Qh7!! Rc8
2. dxc8=R#
1. Qh7!! Rd8
2. exd8=R#
1. Qh7!! Re8
2. dxe8=R#
1. Qh7!! Rf8
2. exf8=R#
1. Qh7!! Rg8
2. Qxg8#
1. Qh7!! Rxh7
2. d8=R# or e8=R#
1. Qh7!! (any other move)
2. Qxh8#
Congratulations, you have solved it!
Promoting a pawn to Rook or Queen would force black to move the Rook on H8 then other pawn takes and promotes to R or Q also works
ResponderExcluirYeah, except you can't do that... Black's Rook on b7 prevents you from promoting both pawns
ResponderExcluirif we move queen to a3 ??? will it work or not, pls explain
ResponderExcluirif we move queen to a3 ??? will it work or not, pls explain
ResponderExcluirTj,
ResponderExcluirRhode Axel Xane is right, you can't promote both pawns, because the rook on b7 pins the last one.
Satish,
ResponderExcluir1. Qa3 also wins the game, but it takes more than 2 moves:
1. Qa3 a5
2. Qxa5+ Kb8
3. d8=Q+ Rxd8
4. Qxd8#
The only move for "mate in 2" is 1. Qh7!!.
how about Qd4 threatning a7 square. ?

ResponderExcluirok... Kb8 saves mate in 2 .. sorry :)
ResponderExcluirSuprabh, exactly. 1. Qd4 leads to checkmate only after 4 moves:
ResponderExcluir1. Qd4 Kb8
2. Qe5+ Ka8
3. e8=Q+ Rxe8
4. Qxe8#

ResponderExcluirBridge, I agree your "mate in 3" is a beautiful finish! :)
ResponderExcluir1. Nc7+ Kb8
2. d8=Q+ Rxd8
3. exd8=Q#
Kevin Zhang,
ResponderExcluirYour combination in not legal. The pawn is pinned, and thus it can't capture the rook.
Right, Axel thanks for pointing that out i missed that
